Active imagination

So last night Noah suckered me into watching the first two episodes of Survivor Season 64 (Hello, Free Primetime On-Demand!). As I've mentioned before, all the token players were there (Pretty Boy Doctor, Funky Blonde With Big Boobs, Manly-Tough Older Woman, Handsome African American Man, etc.) but I still was hooked.

I was intrigued by the Predictable Season Opener Twist in which the two tribes had to select a leader and then the leader had to pick who he/she thought was the best swimmer, smartest, strongest...etc. All based solely on appearances.

Naturally, I imagined myself in that situation, on a remote island being judged by how I look, and laughed heartily at the fools who underestimated me. "I'm a triathlete," I'd say smugly to the camera in one of my secret interviews after the Unnaturally Ripped Waiter bombed such-and-such portion of the immunity challenge. And then I'd play it cool, only revealing my secret awesomeness when advantageous.

I'm learning a lot about myself lately, it seems, besides the unfortunate realization that I still think like a fifth-grader (I'll show them who's boss! or, alternatively, You're not the boss of me!). For instance—and I can't believe I'm about to admit this—but I'm rethinking my stance on country music. I KNOW, PEOPLE. Well, at least female country music singers. It's just, that Taylor Swift is so adorable and sweet and talk about the set of pipes that girl has! And although it goes against so many of my principles, I even have a soft spot for Carrie Underwood.

This is all so unexpected.

I have a similar general line on country, but then, there's always "Jolene." And the Blues Brothers singing "Rawhide"... genius!

The "token players" game also works well when seeing Chippendales in Vegas. But I digress.

I always thought "Cool, I was a Marine, I would totally kick ass on Survivor." And then I realized that I have little patience for stupidity and don't own the ability to have a "phony" face - I'd be voted off first.

Hell, I've almost been voted off the LEO wife blogs. ;)

But yeah "I'm a triathlete" is one of those uber-cool things everyone WISHES they could say. So does that make it worth all the effort? :)

a) Taylor Swift is not country, she's Beyonce with some steel guitars, which is fine as far as that goes.
b) Start with the classics, listen to Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, etc.
I just heard Patsy on "She's Got You" which I hadn't heard in years, and was thinking that if you listened past the 50's country/doo-wop production, it was a simple, awesome song.

I *know* dude. *I* was the one on the bleachers, too! I wasn't a head cheerleader, either Taylor!

I think the country music softening may be from living in Music City USA and having seeds planted and then moving away. I did not like country when I moved there, tolerated it while I was there, and now looking back, pickin and singin reminds me of the good things about the place.

Ok, enough about me...

Jerry Reed is a genius, other than that I know nothing about country music.

Country music is one of my secret indulgences. I hadn't really heard much of it until I went to college (over 10 years ago now!) and thought some of it was crazy, and it still is, but I really like it!

I've got some Faith Hill and Reba I can send your way. Even better a little of my home country's sweetheart Shania Twain? I am a closet country fan - have been for years....it leaves my girlfriends scratching their heads but what eves!

Earth to Mother Ship— Confession: Shania Twain's "The Woman In Me" was my very first CD ever.
